Eden Aurelius is a Brooklyn-based DJ and producer who hails from Chicago’s vibrant underground scene. With releases on a trio of venerable labels—co:clear, Kino Disk, plus her debut album on Short Span—and a summer capped with a performance at the beloved Sustain-Release in Upstate New York, she has quickly carved out a distinct sonic path, her presence expanding within the electronic scene of the global underground and beyond.

Eden’s mix for Sharp FM follows closely on the heels of our expansion of Ceraph. Upon its release two years ago, Emma Piercy’s debut typeface was an immediate hit, finding application across the spectrum of creative industries. Its elegantly flared serifs anticipated the zeitgeist, but it has remained a distinctive font, a magical combination of the constructed and calligraphic that does not adhere to any one genre or era. Eden’s mix, then, follows suit; it’s a kindred spirit.
“This mix is a hybrid set consisting mostly of records and some digital tracks. It combines ambient, minimal techno, glitch and dub. I recorded it in early October at my home studio in Brooklyn. Like most of my mixes, I wanted this one to occur as naturally as possible without too much planning or construction to divert myself from the authentic experience of working in the moment.”

It was a surprise to realize that this is now Sharp FM’s twenty-seventh mix, and we’re honored to feature Eden. Her ambient-techno productions and shape-shifting DJ sets have made her a central voice for ambient electronica and sound system music. For this mix, we encouraged her to follow her muse, and the result is gossamer and haloed, a floating garden of sonic delights making its own way through intimate space.
“When I sat down to do this mix I was imagining a place inside myself - a memory, or a distant space that you have not seen in a long time, or even a place that does not exist. To this effect I followed the sound which eventually fades between structure and ambiance—a naturally occurring form of mixing that I have been attempting to explore or perfect in a way. Even in beatless music there is a pulse that can be brought out of it.”
